Description

Product Introduction:
Prilocaine hydrochloride CAS 1786-81-8  is a local anesthetic of the amino amide type.
Prilocaine is a local anesthetic of the amino amide type first prepared by Claes Tegner and Nils Lfgren. In its injectable form (trade name Citanest), it is often used in dentistry. It is also often combined with lidocaine as a preparation for dermal anesthesia, for treatment of conditions like paresthesia. As it has low cardiac toxicity, it is commonly used for intravenous regional anaesthesia (IVRA). In some patients, a metabolite of prilocaine may cause the unusual side effect of methemoglobinemia, which may be treated with methylene blue. Maximum dosage for dental use: 8.0 mg/kg (2.7 mg/lb), with a maximum dose of 500 mg. Eutectic Mixture of Local Anesthetics (EMLA) containing 5% lidocaine and prilocaine in a cream was found to give effective topical analgesia in normal and diseased skin, making it useful for superficial surgery and various other clinical procedures. To be effective, an adequate amount must be applied under occlusion and at the right time before the intervention.

Product Applications:
This medication contains 2 amide-type local anesthetics, lidocaine and prilocaine. It is used on normal, unbroken skin or on the outer genital area to prevent pain before certain procedures such as inserting a needle, skin grafts, or skin laser surgery. It works by temporarily numbing the skin and surrounding area. Do not use this product in the ears.

If this product alone cannot completely numb the area being treated, it may be used to numb the area before a lidocaine injection is given to provide enough pain relief for certain procedures (e.g., removal of genital warts).

Usage and Dosage:
Infiltration anesthesia: 0.5% to 1% solution with the duration of action of 1 to 1.5 hours.
Nerve blocking anesthesia: use 1% to 2% solution with the duration of action being 2-3 hours.
Epidural anesthesia: use 10 to 30 mL of 1.5% ~ 1% solution with the duration of action of 2.5 to 3.5 hours. Use a maximum dose of 600 mg.
